Land Day commemoration in Poland 2012

Hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets across Europe, the US and the Middle East on Friday to commemorate the Land Day. March 30, is an annual day of commemoration for Palestinians of the events of that date in 1976. In response to the Israeli government’s announcement of a plan to expropriate thousands of dunams of land for „security and settlement purposes”, a general strike and marches were organized in Arab towns from the Galilee to the Negev.  In the ensuing confrontations with the Israeli army and police, six Arab citizens were killed, about one hundred were wounded, and hundreds of others arrested.

Members of Polish Palestine Solidarity Campaign (Kampania Palestyna) and Amnesty International Poland were collecting signatures for a petitions demanding an end to the demolitions of Palestinian homes and free all palestinian political prisoners. The protesters demanded also putting an end to the illegal occupation and recognizing the Palestinian refugees’ right of return.

The event took place on 30th March in central Warsaw and was organized by Polish Palestine Solidarity Campaign (Kampania Palestyna), Amnesty International and supported by Tibetans Association in Poland together with Malaysian Students Association in Poland.
